Barnfield College Phase 2

Four months on from its completion in December 2024, we’re proud to highlight the successful delivery of Barnfield College Phase 2 at New Bedford Road, Luton, Bedfordshire. This transformative, £27 million project, managed by Equals Consulting involved the redevelopment of the College into a modern, forward-thinking campus designed to accommodate future growth.

The redevelopment involved the construction of a state-of-the-art, concrete frame teaching block for construction and engineering, with dedicated teaching spaces, staff areas, and inspiring breakout zones, alongside meticulous landscaping, ample car parking, and accessible external walkways. Chalks engagement to deliver the FF&E marks a significant milestone in Chalks commitment to educational infrastructure.

At Chalk, we take a holistic approach to the design and specification of FF&E, ensuring each item aligns with the unique needs of students, staff, and the wider community. Our process begins with a deep understanding of teaching styles, learning environments, and the evolving needs of educational spaces. We engage closely with stakeholders to develop designs that support diverse teaching methods, from traditional lectures to hands-on, practical sessions.

We consider the physical and emotional wellbeing of users by incorporating ergonomic, sustainable, and flexible furniture solutions that promote comfort and productivity. This ensures that the learning environment not only supports academic success but also fosters collaboration and creativity. Furthermore, we take into account the wider community use of the space, ensuring that it is accessible, adaptable, and contributes positively to the broader campus environment.

Project specific delivery: Chalk led the FF&E design and build programme, collaborating closely with Barnfield College and IBI Group to ensure the designs met stakeholder needs. The comprehensive proposal, developed through site visits and careful planning, was successfully implemented in December 2024.
